Capital Hospice, a nationally-recognized leader in hospice care, is celebrating 30 years of keeping our promise to the community to provide expert comfort and care to individuals and families facing loss and the end of life, regardless of the nature of their illness, lack of a caregiver, or the inability to pay for their care. The largest hospice organization in the region serves the counties and cities of Northern Virginia, Washington D.C. and Prince George’s County, Maryland. Our hospice has served more than 45,000 patients and we continue to care for more than 675 patients, their families and loved ones each day. We are a community-based, community-minded, nonprofit organization. We are accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
While most of our patients choose to be at home in familiar surroundings and among loved ones, sometimes that is not possible. We care for people in long-term care and assisted living facilities. When around-the-clock attention or respite care is needed, patients and families may turn to the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Va. Established in 1982 and housed in a former elementary school building, the Inpatient Center virtually glows with warmth and many of the comforts of home. It is one of the nation’s first free-standing, acute care, inpatient hospice facilities.
Capital Hospice strives to provide relief of physical, emotional, and spiritual pain and to maximize comfort and quality of life for people of all ages living with advanced, life-limiting illnesses and to their loved ones facing loss.
Capital Hospice takes a life-affirming approach to hospice care, with an emphasis on patient comfort, dignity and choice. Hospice professionals assist patients and their loved ones in living each day to the fullest, in the most purposeful and meaningful way, consistent with their wishes and needs.
The interdisciplinary hospice care team includes a physician, nurse, social worker, chaplain, Certified Nursing Assistant, bereavement coordinator and specially trained volunteers. We have more physicians and nurses who have achieved board certification for additional training in hospice and palliative care than any other hospice organization in the region.
Capital Hospice professionals are immediately accessible 7 days a week, 24 hours a day through our unique After Hours Care Center.
Through its Point of Hope Grief Counseling Center, Capital Hospice’s extensive bereavement program offers counseling, support groups, and workshops for individuals and families coping with loss. We also offer a special weekend camp for children, adolescents, and adults who have lost a loved one.
Generous community support allows us to serve all who seek our services, regardless of the nature of their illness, availability of a caregiver or lack of resources to pay for their care.
