The Capital Hospice - Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center is a 15-bed facility in Arlington, Va. for Capital Hospice patients requiring closer monitoring than can be accomplished in the home setting, or whose caregiver is seeking a brief respite. Patients are admitted for short-term stays (generally about 5 days).

By car, follow I-66 to the Glebe Road exit. Follow Glebe Road north to 15 th Street and turn left. The Inpatient Center is located at the end of 15 th Street.
If using public transportation, take the Metro Orange Line to Ballston. Transfer to the Number 10 bus at Ballston, which will take you to the corner of Glebe Road and 15 th Street, two blocks from the Inpatient Center. You may also take a taxi from Ballston.

Capital Hospice also provides a family kitchen, located near the family room. Family members may bring favorite foods from home for patients, store small amounts of food, and reheat food before serving. Coffee and tea are available. Instructions for using the kitchen and appliances are posted. Soda and snack vending machines are also available, and drinking fountains are located in the halls on the second and third levels. The kitchen also serves as a nourishment center for patients, and is stocked with a variety of snacks and beverages for patient use.
Building and Grounds
The family room is at the end of the corridor, near the 16th Street entrance.
It is a quiet, cheerful room where patients and visitors may relax.
There are areas for conversation, reading, and a special play area
for children. The family room has a television and stereo for your
use, and you will also find light reading materials. Religious services
are held in the family room on special holidays. The meditation room is
at the end of the corridor near the top of the stairs. It is a peaceful
place for quiet talks and reflection. The gardens at the Inpatient Center
are for the enjoyment of Capital Hospice patients and their families and
loved ones.
Utilization Review
As in other acute care facilities, the care and services provided by Capital
Hospice are subject to professional review. The federal government
and insurance carriers require our participation. Both admission
and continued stay at the Inpatient Center depend on the level of medical
care and nursing required by the patient, based on established criteria.
Suggestions/Problem Solving
Please share any problem you may encounter or any suggestions for improving
services with the Clinical Manager or the Director of Inpatient Services.
We have a continuing program for quality improvement and want feedback.
Licensing and Certification
Capital Hospice is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a hospital
and is certified by Medicare as a hospice, hospital, and home health agency.
It is also accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO).
