Muir to lead national palliative care group

J. Cameron Muir M.D., vice president for medical services at Capital Hospice, is the new president-elect of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). The AAHPM is an organization of physicians and other medical professionals dedicated to excellence in and advancement of palliative medicine through prevention and relief of patient and family suffering by providing education and clinical practice standards, fostering research, facilitating personal and professional development, and by public policy advocacy.

Dr. Muir is a nationally recognized expert on hospice and palliative care.  He is a national faculty member of Education for Physicians on End of Life Care (EPEC), the American Medical Association-endorsed physician end of life curriculum. He has been a member of the AAHPM Board of Directors since 1999, and a faculty scholar of the Soros Foundation Project on Death in America (PDIA).   Dr. Muir formerly ran the hospice and palliative care program at Northwestern University. He is currently a clinical scholar at the Georgetown Center for Clinical Ethics.

At Capital Hospice, Dr. Muir leads the largest staff of board-certified hospice and palliative care specialists at any single organization in the region.
