Capital Hospice to Train Clinical Scholars

The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine has selected Capital Hospice as a training site to host its Clinical Scholars Program in 2008.  The program, according to AAHPM, is designed to provide physicians with a focused clinical experience in hospice and palliative medicine.  Capital Hospice is one of only eight training sites around the country selected by the AAHPM, based on their outstanding reputation, superior service and well-regarded expertise in the field.

J. Cameron Muir, MD, Vice President for Medical Services at Capital Hospice, said this is great news for the communities served by Capital Hospice. “While we have been selected as a training site because of our national leadership in the field of hospice and palliative medicine, this program will bring some of the nation’s best and brightest medical minds to our organization and our patients and families will benefit,” Muir said.

Capital Hospice is one of only three community-based hospice organizations in the U.S. with an accredited physician fellowship program in the newly-recognized sub-specialty of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.  Physician fellows receive a year of advanced training and preparation for board certification.  No other hospice organization on the East Coast is accredited to offer such training.
