Ways to Support Capital Hospice

Charitable gifts to Capital Hospice help underwrite nearly 16 percent of patient care costs. We count on your support to make end-of-life care available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, and to provide excellent comprehensive care, bereavement support, and other services.

A little planning can result in big tax savings and provide a lasting tribute to your support of Capital Hospice. Our trained professionals will work with you and your financial advisors in strictest confidence to help meet your charitable and financial goals. To learn more about giving to Capital Hospice, please contact the Development Department at 703.531.6209.

Here are eight ways that you can give to Capital Hospice:

Cash Contributions and Matching Gifts

If you itemize on your tax return, cash contributions to Capital Hospice are fully deductible. Each and every gift you make to Capital Hospice is receipted or acknowledged -- regardless of how big or small -- to facilitate your tax filing.  You can double the impact of your gift through matching gift programs sponsored by employers.  Many companies sponsor employee matching gift programs that benefit Capital Hospice.   Please contact your corporate Human Resources departments for the appropriate forms to process the match for your gift.

United Way

The United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) coordinates one of the largest annual fundraising campaigns in the country. Capital Hospice receives many generous gifts for its local services through this annual campaign. If your employer or community participates in the United Way campaign, you can direct your contribution to Capital Hospice by designating #8434.

Combined Federal Campaign

If you work for the federal government, you can direct your annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) contribution to Capital Hospice by designating #39664. Your gift will benefit our programs in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and Prince George's County Maryland.

Outright Gifts of Appreciated Property

In addition to cash contributions, you can donate appreciated property (stocks, bonds, and real estate). When you transfer property that you have held for more than a year to Capital Hospice, you do not pay taxes on the asset’s capital gains. Your charitable deduction is based on the fair market value of the asset at the time of the gift; a win/win situation for you and our patients.

Income-Generating Gifts

You also can use cash and appreciated property to establish charitable remainder trusts or charitable gift annuities. These deferred giving plans provide income and benefits to you while benefiting Capital Hospice, helping to accomplish both financial and charitable objectives you may have.

Endowment Gifts

As an ultimate tribute to the services provided by Capital Hospice, you can use your gift to endow our patient care, grief counseling, and other programs. An endowed fund is invested to provide annual support while at the same time ensuring that your gift increases in value over time.

Bequests

Making a bequest in a will or living trust is a simple way to provide for our work while helping to reduce your inheritance taxes. Any part, percentage, or component of estate or trust assets can be left to Capital Hospice.

Capital Hospice Thrift Shop

You can support the Capital Hospice Thrift Shop in several ways: by donating quality goods, by shopping there, and by encouraging others to donate and shop there.  Since 1997, the Thrift Shop has generated more than $2 million toward patient and family services.

Located just east of Seven Corners in Willston I Shopping Center on Arlington Blvd in Falls Church, Virginia, the Thrift Shop features boutique-level quality goods at thrift store prices. Antiques and collectible porcelain often come through the door; name-brand clothing and sterling silverware are almost always on display.  The Thrift Shop is open from 10 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday and 11 am - 4 pm on Sunday.  To contact Michael Murphy, Thrift Shop Manager, call 703.532.5355.
