Volunteer Positions

Auxiliary

Most auxiliary volunteers can be found at the Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Virginia. Located in a refurbished brick school building at the end of a residential street, this unit provides short-term care for Hospice patients whose symptoms have become temporarily unmanageable at home. Family members and loved ones can visit any time of the day or night.

Because the Inpatient Center is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, volunteer support is especially critical. As an auxiliary volunteer, you can help in these ways:

• Cashiers staff the small cafeteria, open Monday through Friday to family members and loved ones as well as staff.
• Flower Arrangers receive large floral donations and, with the family’s permission, break them down into smaller arrangements that can be placed throughout the building for everyone to admire.
• Landscaping. The Inpatient Center grounds are designed to provide a nurturing, private environment for family members under stress. Our volunteer landscapers do a fabulous job of planting, trimming, and providing the loving care that shapes such a special place. Family members and loved ones constantly remark how much they enjoy this tranquil atmosphere.
• Laundry volunteers wash, fold, and put away linens.
